With glam and vigor the Chainsmokers and Drew Love from “They”, as a duo, announced their forthcoming single ‘Somebody’ that was released to the digital library on April 20th this year. Demonstrating the anatomy of a hit, the Chainsmokers’ “Somebody” uses a combination of modular synth and pitched-up vocals throughout the song featuring mournful keys and atmospheric synths. Drew Taggart and Alex Pall offer a tutorial on how the song was made giving you a insight into the arduous composition process. The vocal was originally composed for a different song; which makes for why there was a change in the pitch of the song. “Somebody” is a tropical song made with several musical elements including pop, R&B and EDM. The lyrics are focused on rejecting material objects that are meant to define you at the expense of changing your true self despite the pressure from everyone around you. “Somebody” currently peaks at No. 8 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and has been played more than 36 million times on Spotify within a month of its release.
The Chainsmokers are DJ and production duo with American origins, consisting of Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart. They made their breakthrough with their 2014 song “#Selfie”, which peaked in the top twenty ranking in several countries. They debuted with Bouquet, which was released in October 2015.
