For more than 25 years Richard Mishaan Design has been a world leader in design for residential, hospitality, and commercial clients. Its hugely innovative projects have placed it on some of the most respected lists in the industry. Its Principal, Richard Mishaan, has an extensive knowledge of fashion, architecture, and interior design. Girded with this knowledge he has written and published two books: “Modern Luxury” and “Artfully Modern.” Both of these were published by Monacelli Press, a division of Random House.
Mishaan was born in Columbia. He began his career by apprenticing in the offices of Philip Johnson. During the same time he was earning a B.A. from New York University’s after which he attended the Columbia University School of Architecture. Richard Mishaan operates his company in New York, a place which is seen as an easy option for interior designers since its many wealthy clients are usually fine with a random assortment of opulent room decorations. And many New York-based interior designers have taken advantage of this.
Doing interior design on cruise control like his peers in no way describes Richard Mishaan. He has described his painstaking approach to classic and beautiful interior design in “Artfully Modern.” The 55-year-old Mishaan does most of his work in private residences and hotels. In 2010 he did a complete renovation all the suites of St. Regis. However, he is willing to seriously consider any interior design project. He is much in demand by wealthy homeowners for his grand, sweeping, yet hospitable flair.
